Theatre South East’s 2021 Favourites

Considering for much of 2021 theatre’s have been dark, it is so glad to see them bouncing back and enjoying packed houses once again. Our reviewers have been very busy and have enjoyed getting back into the theatre and have picked their top choices for 2021

We thank all our supporting theatre and press agents and wish you all a wonderful (and open) 2022.

Minerva Theatre, Chichester

Storey‘s wonderful play about old age and mental infirmity is one of the glories of modern drama and it was a pleasure to see it revived in the intimacy of the Minerva Theatre, Chichester in John Roche’s haunting and sensitive production. It is the first time the play has been seen since Storey’s death in 2017.

The Beauty Queen of Leenane
Minerva Theatre Chichester

This is an intense snapshot of a small community in a period of Irish history when work was only to be found in England or America.

Eric and Ern
The Hawth Crawley

Morecambe and Wise are from the golden age of variety and Jonty Stephens and Ian Ashpitel are doing a magnificent job of keeping it alive. Thank goodness someone is.

Dirty Dancing
Theatre Royal Brighton

It was entertainment on steroids, magical and joyous. The day had been an excessively warm one, nearly 30 degrees, and it did not cool down. This show is hot, hot hot!

Bedknobs and Broomsticks Trailer

Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Theatre Royal Brighton

Although more established shows such as Jamie, Six and Rocky Horror are tried and tested and as a result more polished.. The enchanting Bedknobs and Broomsticks is Sammi’s top pick of the year. It’s new and exciting and a delightful fresh take on the Disney classic. It is well worth a watch.
