Theatre South East’s 2022 Favourites

2022! Coming out of the pandemic has been amazing and a welcome relief for theatre employees and everyone who works in the industry, onstage, in the orchestra pits, behind the scenes and in front of house. The lights were lit, the boards were trod and thousands of people attended plays, musicals, dance opera both in the West End and around the country.

Theatre is back and we think you’ll agree, the world is a better place for it.

The reviewers at theatre South East have attended many shows this year and have been asked to pick their top shows of the year.

What a year!

Wuthering Heights
Theatre Royal Brighton

This is an audacious production and director Rice who also adapted the gothic novel literally throws the kitchen sink at her audience with more ideas than most production companies would dream up in the course of their entire history.

School of Rock
Congress Theatre, Eastbourne

I left the theatre feeling exactly the way a perfect musical should leave you feeling, energised, inspired and full of life. This production is amazing for adults and children alike, and I wouldn’t think twice to see it again.

Here’s What She Said To Me
The Connaught Theatre, Worthing

This play, because of its unique style and incredible creativity enables us all to experience the authentic voices of the African diaspora. I came away from the theatre feeling brilliantly entertained, and very much enlightened.

Life of Pi
Wyndhams Theatre

Life of Pi has to be seen to be believed. It is a treat for the eyes and brings a warm glow to your heart. It reaffirms that you can do anything you set your mind to, as long as you keep faith and a belief in yourself.
