Theatre South East’s favourite shows from 2025

In 2025 the team at Theatre South East have reviewed more shows than ever before! It is such a privilege to share our findings with you! If you have invited us along to review your production, thank you very much,

As always, we are sorry that we couldn’t attend everything but we have done our best to attend a wide variety of productions.

Here is a list of our reviewer’s favourite productions of 2025.

At Theatre South East we remember that theatre is subjective and what one person may love another may not. We hope to give a flavour of the productions we see.

Another great year of theatre!

The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical

Theatre Royal Brighton

The musical was nothing short of mesmerising. It was an explosion of colours and magic that took my imagination to newfound heights.

Top Hat Chichester Festival Theatre

Top Hat
Chichester Festival Theatre

Chichester’s Summer musical has made it into our top choices again. There are chances to see it at the Southbank Centre this Christmas and then on tour!

Ohio

Edinburgh Fringe

OHIO moves through different moments of the Bengsons lives, feeling a spectrum of emotions and entering an other-worldly space which is hard to let go of as they leave the stage.

Summer 1954

Chichester Festival Theatre

A double bill of two classic Terence Rattigan one-act plays, Table Number Seven and The Browning Version. The plays explore repressed emotions, post-war British gentility, and societal judgment, featuring themes of hidden identities.

Editor’s Choice

Oh my! Usually I find it quite easy to choose my favourite show of the year, but honestly, this year I have seen so much outstanding theatre. I don’t like to award too many 5 stars because it devalues them, but this year, I have given no less than 6 myself!

Trying very hard to narrow it down, I couldn’t choose between two Shakespeare plays. Both modern takes and yet oh so completely different.

Much Ado About Nothing
Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Absolutely everything about this production is classy, it is bright and glitzy, beautifully traditional, and a joy to watch.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Bridge Theatre

An immersive production at the Bridge Theatre, London. This is the way to ‘do’ Shakespeare. Laughs a plenty and plenty of magic…. Wonderful!
