Last year a co production with Unicorn Theatre gave us the award-winning Stiles and Drewe production of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and this year we are treated to another captivating family musical The Three Little Pigs aimed at an audience of 3-7 year olds and now currently running at the Minerva Theatre.

The magic begins at once as the three piglets burst onto the stage bringing to life the classic tale of how the trio of piglets come to build houses made of straw, sticks and bricks, to try and outwit the evil wolf with his huffing and puffing.  Mother pig, having lost the piglets father to the wolf, can no longer feed her offspring and the piglets must trot out into the big wide world.

A colourful set with sparkly vibrant costumes, slick dance routines and catchy tunes create a delightful experience for the excitable young audience.  Woven throughout the story are life lessons around family support, individual skill sets and working together as a whole, and not forgetting the importance of reading and learning with a nod to environmentally saving the planet too.

A charismatic and hugely talented cast maintain an impressive level of energy and enthusiasm throughout while Mr Fox, the larger-than-life villain, swaggers menacingly around the stage plotting his way to his next meal with plenty of boos from the interactive audience.  The singing and harmonies are compelling.

This is a heartwarming start to the Christmas festivities and potentially for many the memories are the beginning of a lifelong love of live theatre.
