Drunk on Dickens!

A Pissedmas Carol at Leicester Square Theatre will raise your spirits this holiday season.

Improv, carols, audience engagement, and one inebriated actor stumbling their way through a Christmas classic. If all that sounds like your ideal night out, Shitfaced Showtime’s A Pissedmas Carol is the show for you.

The format is simple but effective: five actors perform (an admittedly loose) interpretation of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, and one of them is ridiculously, copiously drunk. The adapted script allows plenty of room for ad-libbing and quippy remarks. This, along with a rotating cast of performers, makes for the kind of show you could go back to again and again and be sure to get something different every time.

The show offers just enough plot to understand what’s going on, but the true entertainment lies in the incredible performances. The entire ensemble is equipped with talented comedic actors, ready to think quickly on their feet in response to their drunken counterpart’s antics. After all, you never know when Scrooge might leave the stage entirely to hide in the audience, flirt with his employee Bob Cratchet, or start quoting Big Shaq lyrics! Rounding out the company is pianist Charlotte Brooke, who deserves a special shout-out for impressively keeping tempo while accompanying a drunkard singing his way through “Mad World”.

The warm, intimate space at the Leicester Square Theatre proved to be a perfect venue for this hilarious show. The bars on either side of the house keep drinks always within reach for those in the audience who want to join in on the drunken festivities. The actors and audience alike have a blast feeding off each other’s energy as the chaos unfolds.

If you’re after a faithful adaptation of A Christmas Carol, this may not be the show for you. But if you’re looking to get your spirits raised (literally) with a laughter-filled, slightly raunchy night out at the theatre, then Leicester Square is the place to be.

A Pissedmass Carol is currently playing at Leicester Square Theatre until January 4th.
