Autumn Season at the Hawth

Autumn Season at the Hawth

It may still be Summer but The Hawth is already planning ahead to those Autumn and Winter days, offering a fantastic selection of performances and events to brighten up the darker months of the year. This new season is full of everything from music legends and comedy icons to gripping theatre to breathtaking dance, with lots of family fun on the side too. Here are some of the highlights:

Comedy will come from the likes of Al Murray, Ben Elton and Rob Beckett who have already sold out, but there is still a chance to snap up tickets for Lucy Beaumont Live, the star of the award-winning Meet The Richardsons and co-host of chart-topping podcast Perfect Brains with Sam Campbell.

Music is always a key part of The Hawth programme and the Crawley theatre is delighted to present 80s legend Midge Ure as part of The Collection Tour, those who prefer the sounds of the 60s can travel back in time with Showaddywaddy and for audiences who love the musicals, why not spend an evening with Kerry Ellis: Queen of the West End or John Barrowman: Laid Bare.

Alongside this selection of music there are tributes to the music of The Beatles, ABBA, Barbra Streisand, Pink Floyd, Meat Loaf and many more. If classical music is more to your tastes there are ensemble performances from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in our Studio, which always prove popular and English Touring Opera (ETO) make a welcome return with The Snowmaiden by Rimsky Korsikov.

There’s even the chance to introduce young ones to opera as ETO will be bringing a special performance to the studio, The Wellies is a delightful musical adventure for 3 – 6 year olds and those with special educational needs and disabilities. There’s more family fun with the classic picture book, Dear Zoo coming to life on stage, Cirque: The Greatest Show offering up hit musical numbers and spectacular circus performers and Let’s All Dance Ballet Company return with The Ugly Duckling, A Christmas Wish and The Nutcracker to entertain young audiences.

Plus, of course, The Hawth’s festive family pantomime returns. This year EastEnders legend Steve McFadden will be treading the boards in Jack and the Beanstalk alongside Crawley’s favourite dame, Michael J Batchelor, who returns for his 11th year.

Fans of theatre are in for a wonderful season with The Lion and The Unicorn, a radio play live on stage offering a glimpse of what might have happened when Churchill and Chamberlain met for dinner in 1939. Then Hancock’s Half Hour: The Lost Episodes will transport everyone back to 23 Railway Cuttings and for those looking for a more modern tale, Dizzy, written by Olivier-nominated Mohamed-Zain Dada (Blue Mist, Royal Court) uses an innovative soundscape, transmitted through provided headphones, for a captivating blend of technology and storytelling.

There’s also spectacular dance from Imperial Classical Ballet who present Swan Lake for one night only, but whatever night out you’re looking for, there will be something for you. The Dreamboys return, Dr Louise Newson will explore Hormones and The Menopause: The Great Debate, John Nichols will captivate with his discoveries on the Unknown Warrior and if you’re looking for a full house will love Bingo That’s Bonkers.
