Spring Season at Congress and Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne

2020 looks set to be another bumper year of entertainment at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park and Congress Theatre with plenty of shows to lure audiences away from their sofas. The latest season brochure of events is available now with a diverse range of options – the difficulty will be in choosing what to see! There is a wide assortment of musicals including; West End smash hit Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (11 – 15 Feb), The Sound of Music (31 Mar – 4 Apr) featuring Emilie Fleming (Over the Rainbow) as Maria and Andrew Lancel reprising his role as Captain von Trapp. The electrifyin’ Grease the Musical (1 – 6 Jun) is back, more glamourous and gritty than ever before, and sunshine is guaranteed with Mamma Mia! (25 Aug – 5 Sept) the world’s most exhilarating smash-hit musical irresistibly told through the timeless hits of ABBA.

Dramatic offerings include: Willy Russell’s Educating Rita (17 – 22 Feb) starring Stephen Tompkinson, Alan Bennett’s The Habit of Art (18 – 21 Mar) starring Matthew Kelly and David Yelland directed by Philip Franks, and absorbing drama The Kite Runner (28 Apr – 2 May) based on the best-selling novel by Khaled Hosseini returns to the Devonshire Park Theatre.

There’s comedy with; a new farce written by John Cleese Bang Bang! (20 – 25 Apr) – who wanted to star in the show but wasn’t allowed! – which stars Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools and Horses), Tony Gardner and Wendi Peters. And Stand Up with; Rob Beckett (22 Feb – single seats left only), Jimmy Carr (7 May), Julian Clary (15 May), Josh Widdicombe (30 May), Romesh Ranganathan (21 & 22 April – single seats left only).

Looking further forward in 2020 there are a number of big West End shows which are booking now; the multi Olivier Award winning Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon (15 – 19 September). Following two smash hit West End seasons the WhatsOnStage award winning black comedy rock musical Heathers the Musical (27 – 31 Oct) comes to Eastbourne on its first national tour, another big name show which is booking now is the musical My Best Friend’s Wedding (30 Nov – 1 Dec) starring Alexandra Burke.
