TUNBRIDGE WELLS OUTDOOR ICE RINK REOPENS!

Jodie Russell TWS

The Royal Tunbridge Wells’ outdoor ice rink reopens on Friday 20 November ‘15 – Sunday 3 January ’16, offering young and old alike a fun winter activity in the heart of the town.

Set in the beautiful splendour of Calverley Grounds’ amphitheatre, the ice rink offers something for everyone, from general skating and mother and toddler sessions, to meeting Father Christmas himself this Christmas in his cosy, warm log cabin!

To mark the opening night of the ice rink, Silver Blades Gillingham will be showcasing a variety of their very own talent from group routines to solo figure skating performances from Jodie Russell (2015 competitor in the British solo junior ice dance championships) and Aaron Freeman ( currently training for next year’s British senior male championships).  Local samba band Bloco Fogo will also add colour and spectacle with their energetic sets of Samba drumming – something for everyone.

‘The ice rink is the perfect destination for some winter fun. Royal Tunbridge Wells is a great place to be this Christmas.’ Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Councillor David Elliott

There are family tickets, concessions and our popular loyalty card means you can build up stamps and exchange for a free skate. Parent & Toddler sessions are every morning with two dedicated sessions for under 4s and their parents  – with main skating following every hour from 11am.

Bathed in twinkling festive lights, wooden chalets will be selling Christmas gifts and festive produce. There will be lots of mouth watering food to choose from, Basil on Ice with their specialty hot chocolate, soups and award-winning cakes and bakes.  Freshly made pizzas stone baked in a wood fired oven from Pizza Cucina and mouth watering gourmet sirloin steak burgers, pulled pork in a hickory BBQ sauce and homemade waffles from Apple & Cor!. Not forgetting the Fuggles Pop Up bar selling real ale, some Belgian classics and other seasonal drinks.

Advanced booking is recommended at peak times – Thursday and Friday evenings, school holidays and all day Saturday and Sunday. Motorised and non-motorised wheelchair users are welcome to enjoy the rink in their own wheelchair but must be accompanied by a competent skater. The cost of one hour’s skating including hire of boots will be from £7 for children and £9.50 for adults.

The ice rink will be open until Sunday 3 January 2016.
