Dorking Halls’ autumn-winter season is packed full of shows to suit all tastes and ages.
Their line-up of family events kicks off with Russian State Ballet and Opera House on 29 September, who are back with an enchanting production of The Nutcracker. Expect snow flurries, sweets, princes, magic and love in this classic family ballet. The cat with the loudest of meee-ews, Tabby McTat is here on 2 and 3 October. Adapted from the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, this is a heart-warming tale of friendship and loyalty interwoven with original songs and a sprinkling of magic. Relive the delights of one of the world’s best loved nursery rhymes, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly on 27 October. This magical show has been written especially for grownups to enjoy with their children, and features a feast of sing-along songs and colourful animal characters.
This year’s Christmas panto, Aladdin, on from 14 – 29 December. From the same team behind last year’s record-breaking production of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin will be a spectacular festive treat not to be missed. Expect some familiar TV faces, lots of singing, dancing and laughing, and plenty of audience participation.
Comedy fans won’t be disappointed, either. Morecambe and Wise fans can enjoy a nostalgic night of the double act’s most loved routines, songs and sketches in An Evening of Eric and Ern on 4 October, starring Oliver-nominated duo Ian Ashpitel and Jonty Stephens. They will be followed by the man behind Dave TV’s hit show Modern Life Is Goodish and Googlewhack Adventure, Dave Gorman on 26 October with his new show With Great PowerPoint Comes Great ResponsibilityPoint. Following his five-star Olivier-nominated hit My Family: Not The Sitcom, David Baddiel hits the Halls on 31 January. He has stories to tell, of the dark, terrible and hysterically absurd cyber-paths that interacting with trolls has led him down.
There’s also plenty of live music. The always-popular From The Jam are here 10 October. Vocalist and guitarist Russell Hastings and legendary bassist Bruce Foxton will celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Jam’s fourth studio album, Setting Sons. Soon after, on 19 October, top tribute The Upbeat Beatles take to the stage. Expect breathtaking harmonies, excellent guitar solos and lots of Scouse humour in this joyful production telling the story of the legendary band. Internationally-acclaimed ABBA tribute Platinum are back with another festive show on 6 December. With stunning musicianship, their meticulously-crafted, electrifying show can be enjoyed by all ages.
