Cycles of the Southern Wind | Blue Elephant Theatre | 4-8 Nov

Cycles of the Southern Wild at the Blue Elephant Theatre, Camberwell

TailSpin Theatre Company

Dates: 4 – 8 November

In November 2012 Cat Gerrard began a journey across America, by bicycle. She soon learned that 2,767 miles is not just a journey on a map: it’s a journey into our own depths.

Travelling across swamp and desert, stretched out and blown about by forces outside and in, she discovered how to stay still at full tilt. Join Cat and cyclist and musician Belinda Sherlock as they interclash and rhythmically mash storytelling and percussion, using only their voices, bodies and bicycles.

“Cat Gerrard has taken the art of the personal narrative to a new dimension in Cycles of the Southern Wild, it is woven cleverly into fragments of myth and folklore…She invites us as audience to go with her, and it is easy to say yes”.

Clare Muireann Murphy, Storyteller

Cat Gerrard is Artistic Director of TailSpin, curating storytelling events across the city and running ‘Night of the Storyteller’ monthly at The Miller, London Bridge, since 2010. She has previously worked at Blue Elephant Theatre as part of the devising cast of Theatre Témoin’s The Fantasist, which ran to great acclaim in March 2012, going on to sell out at the Edinburgh Fringe and tour the UK and Ireland.

Belinda Sherlock trained at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, before gaining a choral and instrumental scholarship at the University of Cambridge. Belinda has regular professional engagements as a percussionist (orchestral, opera, musicals, storytelling including Pandvani 108).
