The Hawth is committed to making the theatre as accessible and enjoyable an experience for all our patrons as possible. The Crawley theatre offers a range of access performances throughout the year including British Sign Language interpreted, captioned and audio described performances and talking programmes.
The Hawth is looking for volunteers to be trained by their current Audio Description team to deliver support to our visually impaired patrons during performances. This role would involve seeing shows for free in advance and giving audio descriptions of the action on stage via headphones, leading touch tours of the set and costumes before the show to allow customers to get a sense of the show’s setting and giving volunteers the opportunity to experience life backstage in a busy theatre, recording an audio version of the What’s On Brochure three times a year and offering talking programmes prior to concerts in the theatre.
New volunteers will have the opportunity to be involved in up coming performances of Sleeping Beauty starring Stephen Mulhern, Dreamboats and Miniskirts and Oklahoma! starring Gary Wilmot and Belinda Lang.
If you have a clear speaking voice, an enthusiasm for theatre and can commit your time we would love to hear from you. No experience is necessary as full training will be given.
For more information or to arrange to come in to The Hawth and discuss the role please contact Steve Crane on 01293 859954 or email [email protected]
