Brendan Cole; A Night To Remember | Review
Saturday saw the official opening night of Brendan Cole‘s new touring show, ‘A Night To Remember‘, at the New Wimbledon Theatre.
One of only two of the original professional dancers on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, Brendon Cole is the creator and choreographer of his theatre shows, Live and Unjudged, Licence to Thrill and now A Night To Remember.
Featuring a live orchestral band, two vocalists and a group of eight dancers the show was shoehorned onto a relatively small stage however this did not affect the impact of this impressive show.
The show promises ‘A Night To Remember‘ and certainly delivers, it follows the same sequencing as previous tours; demonstrating dances that all Strictly Come Dancing fans will recognise and love; from poised ballroom in the form of quickstep, waltz, foxtrot and the most moving dance of the show the Viennese Waltz to contemporary dances such as high energy jives, paso doble, Argentine tango and Lindy hop to name just a few.
The dancers were accompanied by an 11 piece band under the musical direction of Barry Robinson producing music which was varied and fantastic together with two excellent vocalists, Julie Maguire and Iain Mackenzie they produced some brilliant big sounds receiving as much appreciation from the audience as the dancers, all this punctuated by Brendan’s commentary there is much to enjoy with this show.
Brendan as the host of the evening offered some personal thoughts and answered questions from the audience bringing further disclosures and Strictly secrets, he even answered a dancer’s technical question.
Throughout the night Brendan and the rest of the cast work hard to engage the audience making the night unique and entertaining for anyone who is a fan of Strictly Come Dancing.
A variety of excellent music and quick costume changes makes ‘A Night to Remember’ a thoroughly enjoyable and captivating evening and tours across the country and into Ireland until April. If you are a dancing fan – you’ll love it.
