THE BROTHERS

12th, 13th & 15th May 7.00pm | Library Gardens | Tickets: £6, £2 concessions

Tonbridge School present a new translation of Terence’s The Brothers. This classic Roman comedy brings you a tale of misunderstandings and family drama, and is set against a modern backdrop, a far cry from its first performance in 160BC. Two brothers raised very differently by their uncle and their father are forced together when bad-boy Aeschines is caught red-handed, running off with a dancing girl from the local sleazy night club. Comic high jinks unfold as we discover which brother is the real troublemaker.
This is an outdoor production performed in the Tonbridge School Library Gardens. Be sure to bring something to sit on and dress for the weather.

ANIMAL FARM

Tuesday 19th -Thursday 21st May 7.30pm | Tickets: £6, £2 concessions

Tonbridge School present their adaptation of Orwell’s classic tale. In a world governed by rules, routine and the promise of “a better tomorrow”, a group of animals dare to imagine something different. Inspired by the dream of equality, they overthrow their human owner and take control of the farm. At first, hope flourishes. New commandments are written. Everyone is equal. Everyone belongs. But as power begins to concentrate in the hands of a few, the language of freedom shifts. Rules are revised. Truth becomes flexible. Fear replaces solidarity. What started as a revolution slowly transforms into something disturbingly familiar.

AS YOU LIKE IT

Saturday 23rd May 6.00pm | Library Gardens | Tickets: £4.50 to £22

Pedalling from venue to venue with all of their set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes, the HandleBards are a four-strong troupe of actors who are spending the summer bringing environmentally sustainable Shakespeare to venues across the UK. Join the troupe for a fantastically funny bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’.

What’s the play about? Well – Rosalind and her cousin Celia flee to the Forest of Arden, where they bump into Rosalind’s love interest Orlando. However, Rosalind is disguised as a young man. Cue some local Shepherds getting involved and the stage is set for a wild ride of wooing, hilarious mistaken identity and the odd wrestling match. This is an outdoor production, so please bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather!
