An energetic and exciting evening of non-stop hits
A fine evening of musical hits awaited me and my companions at the quaint Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis. Performed by Arabesque Musical Productions, the event stormed through some of the greatest hits from a selection of the most iconic musicals, starting with We Will Rock You, the first act whizzed through Little Shop of Horrors, Sweet Charity, and ended on a high with Les Miserables.
Act two featured songs from Kiss Me Kate, Rent and West Side Story with a few Lloyd Webber classics added in for good measure, all backed by a professional orchestra.
There was a really positive energy on stage and every performer was given a chance to shine through various solo songs as well as full cast hits, everyone’s passion to perform resonated on stage and it made for a really upbeat and enjoyable evening.
There were some exceptional performances in particular that stood out to me. A young girl named Isla swept onto the stage, quite literally, to sing Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables. She must have been roughly eight or nine years old and she had a voice of an angel, after recently watching Matilda on stage and being able to compare similar singers of her age, I would say she certainly has what it takes to sing at a professional level and has a bright future ahead of her. The song was followed up by my personal favourite Master of the House, performed by Pete and the ensemble, it was an excellent and very humorous interpretation.
Tamzin, who played the role of Maria in West Side Story, was an incredible Soprano. She genuinely blew the entire audience away with an amazing vocal range, and also delivered a flawless rendition of Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Phantom of the Opera. We were all stunned and left in awe by her voice.
The 12 piece live orchestra were also fantastic and performed the music to perfection.
Other notable performers included Josh who played multiple characters throughout the evening with fantastic vocal skills, and Emma sung with powerhouse vocals combined with excellent acting.
The evening was an excellent opportunity to enjoy all of your favourite hits, and to get a taste of any musicals you’ve yet to see.
