James Bond Concert Spectacular
The Hawth Theatre, Crawley hosted the 2019 tour of Q The Musical: James Bond Concert Spectacular on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th November.
Not surprisingly the synonymous James Bond Theme opens the show and as well as getting the audience in the mood for an evening of great entertainment introduces the 12 piece band who entertain and play amazing tributes and respect to the Bond music.
Caroline Bliss introduced the songs and narrated the musical history so infamous with Bonds appeal and success. Giving insights to her own appearance as Miss Moneypenny to Timothy Dalton’s 007 she adds an interesting and educational aspect to the show. This commentary complements the composers work but it is the band that transports you back to your Bond era.
Chronologically working back from 1962 to Sam Smith & Jimmy Napes 2015 Writing’s On The Wall, the band perform a concert of some of the best known title tracks intertwined with additional background film music.
Each musician adds to the experience, with some front stage performances and some tricks with the sticks from the drummer, so not only are you hearing a great concert but are equally visually entertained.
Vocals were performed by Kerry Schultz, who pretty much nails every song and excels in the big Shirley Bassey numbers with her incredibly strong voice. Complemented by Damien Edwards, who was somewhat underutilised but smashed Dirty Love with Kerry, every song was performed brilliantly.
Warren Ringham developed the band, as a self confirmed Bond Geek, musician and producer in 2004 and they continue to tour throughout 2019. If this performance at The Hawth Crawley, was anything to go by they will continue to do so, as long as Bond fans remain.
